I wanted to provide you with a brief update regarding some of the bigger “changes” your student(s) can expect as we stay open for in-person instruction through December and beyond. Some of these changes will require some getting used to:
1. No more Mask Breaks: As per the new restrictions recently implemented by ODE, group Mask Breaks are no longer allowed. Instead, we are able to provide “sensory breaks” for individual students, to include small supervised groups of socially distanced students if needed. It is important that we begin using the term “sensory break” in place of Mask Break. This change is designed to support the Governor’s Mask Mandate, thus, “No Breaks Allowed”. Students will be allowed to take a “sensory break” when needed:)
2. Masks must be worn outside: Students must wear their masks at all times even when outside, whenever possible, unless on sensory break or while eating, to include recess and PE times. This is due to the new Outside/Inside Mask mandate/guidance in response to the rising COVID case counts.
3. The Department of Education is recommending parents of students who currently have a “mask exemption” to provide a Doctor/Clinician note of verification. This change will only affect a select few students, but I wanted to get the word out so no one is blindsided by the request.
Please help us stay open by visiting with your student(s) about these changes. I have a feeling they won’t be popular as they are certainly more restrictive than what our kids are used to. We appreciate your support with setting clear expectations that will serve to keep our doors open.
