The sound of heavy equipment was heard at 8 am today as Hughes Excavation surveyed and started the excavation for the pad and driveway for the new Vocational building, which will sit where the baseball diamond used to be. Andy Brophy is the project manager from CB Construction (CBC), the general contractor for the Alsea Bond Project. He estimates that in about two weeks the pad should be in place so that subcontractors and CBC can start installing the underground utilities. The dirt is being hauled to the hayfield behind the bleachers, which saves the cost of paying to haul the dirt to Corvallis to dump. Keenan Elbers, head of maintenance for the school, says that the plan is to level that field for future district use.
“Moving dirt has been a long time coming as the district has run into multiple delays this summer”, states Sean Gallagher – Acting Superintendent, “We are all anxious to see significant progress this year with the bond project.”
