Regular Board Meeting Report – November 10, 2022

November 11, 2022

As part of recent Oregon Department of Education grant funding for school safety at small, rural districts, Alsea School was able to have a Site Safety Assessment performed by David Solomon, the Emergency Preparedness Coordinator for Mid-Willamette Education Service District. Because of the diligence of Alsea School District (ASD) Facilities Coordinator Keenan Elbers and his hard-working staff, Alsea School passed the School Site Safety Assessment with flying colors. The assessment can be viewed at https://meetings.boardbook.org/Documents/WebViewer/2548?file=6f236c04-edd6-4a43-8ee2-aeac7df31dff . Terry Hoyt Lunsford gave a report on the activities of the Alsea Wolverines Booster Club (AWBC) since its founding in October of 2021. Details about the many accomplishments of the small but productive group can be found here https://meetings.boardbook.org/Documents/WebViewer/2548?file=eddcadf2-a27d-4e16-9c08-89674d106f07 . Terry asked for more community participation, talked about future projects, and submitted an official form that school staff can use to request funding from AWBC for classroom, project, program, or athletic items.

Official ASD enrollment is 248 students. Learn At Home Oregon enrollment is 278 students. Sadly, the amounts in the accounts for various student body groups are down. During COVID restrictions, events that normally replenish these accounts were prohibited. Mr. Clendenin says that the student groups will have opportunities to regain lost financial ground during this school year. The HR Reset was again tabled for a later meeting, but vacation and holiday allowances for classified employees was clarified here https://meetings.boardbook.org/Documents/WebViewer/2548?file=256a53da-2f59-41ca-b448-846261d5d747 . Meanwhile, Mr. Fricke received 3 stipend allowances in addition to his salary, details here https://meetings.boardbook.org/Documents/WebViewer/2548?file=574d7b4f-798e-4a96-a9f0-d6d4f832fa98 .
