After completing a multi-state search, the Alsea school board of directors is pleased to announce that three finalists have been selected for further consideration to be the next superintendent for the Alsea School District. The three selected finalists are: Krista Nieraeth, Hayward Chandler, and Steve Woods.
Krista Nieraeth
Ms. Nieraeth has been with the Port Orford-Langlois school district since 2013 and currently serves as the K-12 Principal, Special Education Director, and Federal Grants Coordinator. Prior to that she was a secondary science and math teacher for the Klamath County School District for seven years. Ms.
Nieraeth earned both her Master’s Degree in Education Administration and her administrative credentials from Concordia University.
Hayward “Mark” Chandler
Mr. Chandler has been a special education teacher with the Gwinnett County Public Schools since 2017. Prior to that he was the superintendent of the Des Moines Municipal Schools. Mr. Chandler earned his master’s degree in Education from the State University of West Georgia, and his Doctorate in Education from Liberty University.
Steve Woods
Mr. Woods has been superintendent of the Days Creek School District since 2018. Prior to that he was the assistant superintendent of Cornerstone Christian Schools. Mr. Woods earned his master’s degree in Education from the Abilene Christian University, and his administrative credentials from Portland State University.
The school board will begin background and reference checks for the finalists over the next week. Each finalist will be invited for a “day in the district” on February 21 in Alsea, Oregon. At that time, staff and members of the community will have an opportunity to meet the candidates. The staff and community “meet and greets” will be held in the afternoon and evening, the time and location will be announced soon. Comment cards will be provided for participants to share thoughts with the school board after the event.
