Alsea School District is alerting parents to the character called “Huggy Wuggy” which can be found on social media sites, video-sharing sites, and in online games. The character’s innocent portrayal oftentimes allows the inappropriate content to slip through content blockers. The character’s name sounds innocent, but “Huggy Wuggy” is actually far from innocent. The character promotes topics such as death, killing, drug use, alcohol abuse, etc. Many school districts throughout the nation have sent out parent alerts (similar to this one) regarding this character that promotes dangerous behaviors among children.
It is important that our school district continues to partner with parents and guardians and provide information for them to make informed decisions in regard to their child’s exposure to inappropriate content. Sharing information to keep students safe at all times is our highest priority.
